East Kaweah GSA has completed the trial phase of its Well Inventory program, and will now finish well inventory for the rest of the GSA. Over the next several weeks, a well inventory will take place in the Lindmore Irrigation District and Lindsay-Strathmore Irrigation District areas. East Kaweah GSA is updating stakeholders on well inventory progress in continued commitment to transparency.
The trial phase began in July, and included cross-checking publicly available information to verify existing domestic, agricultural, and industrial well construction details, locations, and hydrogeologic information within the GSA.
Because East Kaweah GSA is taking a boots-on-the-ground approach to well inventory, stakeholders may see GSA staff working from public roads to complete this process. The GSA is reminding landowners of this effort to promote transparency and reassure them that staff will not be entering private property.
Well inventory is a Subbasin-wide effort in partnership with Mid-Kaweah and Greater Kaweah GSAs. It is a larger effort to manage and understand groundwater conditions and meet the regulatory requirements of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA).
Well inventory helps the Kaweah Subbasin proactively plan to meet the water management strategies written in the GSP. Implementing the GSP helps keep the Kaweah Subbasin out of threat of probation and maintain local control over groundwater management.
