The East Kaweah GSA held a special board meeting on June 23, 2023 where the board unanimously approved the Draft Kaweah Subbasin Mitigation Framework and EKGSA Draft Mitigation Plan for a 45-day public comment period.
The Kaweah Subbasin Mitigation Framework is a coordinated agreement of all three GSAs (EKGSA, MKGSA, GKGSA) within the Kaweah Subbasin to standardize the mitigation of adverse effects caused by groundwater overdraft.
The Draft EKGSA Mitigation Plan affects all well owners in the East Kaweah GSA, and is a corrective measure to address the Department of Water Resources’ (DWR) incomplete determination on the Groundwater Sustainability Plan (GSP). The Kaweah Subbasin Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) are coordinating to mitigate adverse impacts on wells and critical infrastructure adversely affected by declining groundwater levels, land subsidence, and degraded groundwater quality.
Stakeholder engagement through public comment is crucial to effectively carry out the Mitigation Plan while addressing DWR’s comments on the GSP. East Kaweah GSA encourages stakeholders to review the Draft Plan and submit public comments for the board and technical consultants to consider.
The 45-day public comment period began June 24, 2023 and will close August 7, 2023.
Stakeholders can download the public comment form to complete and email to groundwater@ekgsa.org, or print the form and mail to PO Box 908, Lindsay, CA 93247 . Stakeholders can also stop by the office to fill out a public comment form in person.
After the public comment period is complete, the East Kaweah GSA board and technical consultants will revise the Draft Mitigation Plan to incorporate public comments, and submit the Draft Plan to the Board of Directors for adoption. Visit ekgsa.org/mitigation for more information.
