The East Kaweah Board of Directors received an informational presentation from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Fish and Wildlife) on permitting requirements for maintaining local waterways, including Cottonwood Creek.

The presentation was prompted by interest from local landowners working to address impacts from previous storm events. Fish and Wildlife staff outlined the permitting options available for stream maintenance, including permits for one-time projects, routine maintenance agreements, and emergency work when conditions pose an immediate risk. The discussion also highlighted typical permit timelines and the importance of coordinating with Fish and Wildlife before work begins.

The presentation provided Board members and the public with a better understanding of the permitting process as landowners continue evaluating opportunities to maintain waterways and reduce future flood risks.
