A new technological update in the Water Dashboard will soon allow landowners to customize the order in which evapotranspiration (ETa) is consumed or accounted for. The feature, currently under development, will give landowners autonomy to correct their order of use by considering landowners’ water rights and farming or land use practices. East Kaweah GSA anticipates this revised feature will accommodate landowners by more accurately reflecting their consumptive use reflected on End of Year Summary Statements.
This new Water Dashboard feature will take an estimated 60 days to complete, delaying invoicing to late summer 2023.
This decision was made under the direction of East Kaweah GSA board members. The East Kaweah GSA acknowledges that previous communications to landowners stated that billing was scheduled for June, but we are confident that this decision will increase invoice accuracy.
Currently, the Water Dashboard predetermines order of use, and landowners are unable to customize the order of use. Since ETa data does not differentiate between what type of water was consumed, the new feature allows landowners to make that distinction, potentially benefiting landowners’ overall consumptive use reflected on End of Year Summary Statements.
The Rules and Regulations stipulate the order of use within section 6.2 Categories of Water and 6.3 Priority of Use in the Rules and Regulations.
